1st North Luzon FOSS Conference - REGISTRATION IS CLOSED!

The University of Baguio in cooperation with the ASEAN+3 Node of International Open Source Network (IOSN), the ASEAN Foundation, the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE), the Philippine Open Source Network (POSNET) and Baguio Association of Private and Technical Institutions (BAPTI) will be holding the 1st North Luzon Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) Conference on January 18 and 19, 2010 at the University of Baguio.
The conference aims to provide an avenue for resource sharing and collaboration among different institutions on FOSS technologies and its diverse applications. We expect 150 participants from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Basic Education Schools, Local Government Units (LGUs), Non-profit Organizations, and Small-to-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and 40 student participants in the ASEAN Quest Competition who are based in the North Luzon Region (Regions 1, 2 and CAR).
The 2-day conference is composed of three FOSS-themed tracks that will cater to different job levels in an organization. The 1st day of the event shall hold a plenary session. The 2nd day will be divided into the following: Track 1: Business/Service Delivery, Track 2: Education and Track 3: Systems Administration/FOSS Migration. The tracks shall be delivered through lectures, discussions and hands-on laboratory sessions.
The following topics shall be discussed in the following tracks:
Track 1: BUSINESS/SERVICE DELIVERY
Topics: FOSS Business Model, Reaching out to Present and Potential Clientele, Document Management System (Open Journal), IP Telephony with TrixBox, MAgrikalakal: A Mobile Application for Trading and Enterprise Resource Planning with Open Bravo
Track 2: EDUCATION
Topics: OpenOffice Writer, OpenOffice Calc, OpenOffice Impress, Graphics Design Using Gimp, Multi-track Audio Processing Using Audacity, Video Editing Using Avidemux, E-Learning with Moodle, Creating Websites with eXe Learning and Desktop Publishing Using InkSpace
Track 3: SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION/FOSS MIGRATION
Topics: Desktop Publishing Using InkSpace, Basic Systems Administration Using Command Line Interface, Setting-up Services (Web, Samba, FTP, SSH, Printing), Installing Content Management Systems (Dripal, Joomla, WordPress) and Managing Computer Networks with FOSS.
Target Audience for Track 3: IT Managers, IT Professionals and Practitioners (System/Network Administrators), Technical Support.
Conference kit, lunch and 2 snacks, and certificate of participation are free of charge. However, participants should provide for their transportation and their accommodation
Since Track 2 and Track 3 sessions are interactive and hands-on, a limited number of 50 participants from each track will only be accommodated. With this, we encourage you to register early to be able to reserve a slot.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:
The deadline for registrations shall be January 8, 2010. Should the number of registrants exceed the target number of participants, a screening shall be conducted by the organizers to make sure that all/most of the organizations/institutions shall be represented. Confirmation of participation shall be communicated between January 9 to 11, 2010.
